A Love Story About Killing

In the summer of 1924, a pair of well-to-do Chicago teens conspired to take the life of a randomly-selected child as part of an intellectual dare. Their subsequent prosecution became known as “The Trial of the Century”. Beginning Halloween weekend, the critically-acclaimed artists of The Theater Within tell their story in John Logan’s Never the Sinner.

Hate Permitted

The brutality of the killing of Bobby Franks by Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb was sensationalized in ways that created a portrait of a time in history as split up and reassembled as a Surrealist painting. At the same time the most famous lawyer in America, Clarence Darrow, did daily battle with state’s attorney Robert Crowe, newspapers held contests and teenage girls wrote fan letters proclaiming their adoration for the same widely-reproduced and stylishly-groomed faces a wider and more vocal public clamored for the death of.

Hanging is Good

The Theater Within offers its audience the opportunity to witness the inner workings of the creative mind each night as cast and crew return to the stage for conversation about the ideas presented in each performance… Those in attendance serve as a jury, piercing the imaginary wall between ritual and real life.
