“Golds” Standard Orchestrated by Local Theater
An ordinary Manhattan apartment vaults to the top of a mountain when the music of Wagner crashes the party at the dawn of the Human Genome Project. See what becomes of mankind as The Theater Within unveils its 2010 season with Jonathan Tolins’ The Twilight of the Golds.
Magic Fire
The late 1980s was a simpler time than that of the 2010s. Classical CDs were considered high-tech, telephones still plugged into walls and the sex of unborn children was still usually a surprise at the time of birth. When they chose to, people like Suzanne and David Gold talked about pasts and futures to psychoanalysts and stock traders, but not genetic engineers. Who knew how much more choice lay at their fingertips?
An Opera About the End of the World?
Like researchers standing at an ever-changing horizon, The artists of Theater Within probe the boundaries of human experience. The score is dramatic and the scope as wide as human imagination. Its audience shares in the creation of a new world when actors, audience and special guests from the community gather each night for the postshow discussion known as Looking Within.
